Gemstone Spotlight: Moonstone
Moonstone has been utilized in jewelry making techniques since ancient civilizations. Its almost glowing sheen, created by layers and layers of feldspar, attracted the Romans and Greeks because they believed it was made from solidified moon rays and associated the stone with their lunar deities. In more recent history, moonstone was a popular gem in the Art Noveau period and used in very large, statement jewelry particularly by French goldsmith, Rene Lalique as you can see in the piece below:
Moonstone can be found in a variety of colors such as blue, green, grey, white, pink, peach, brown, and even colorless but blue seems to be the most common especially in jewelry making because it provides a strong contrast to metal faceting and makes a really bold piece.
In our Classic collection, we use moonstone as small accent gems in our Palangi falls pieces. The moonstone is set as a center gem or beading with our Jawan detailing on rustic silver and creates very unique pieces to wear day or night.
